My Levenger Order Came In!

Late last week I placed an order with Levenger to get the Holiday Tasker Cards and the Circa PDA.  Today, they finally came in!  Not a moment too soon, I might add!  Especially since I have a brother whose birthday is today and my step-mothers was yesterday.  Which reminds me, I need to run out and get cards for them!  :o)

There is nothing better than getting a phone call from my local Post Net saying that I have another  package from Levenger.  Yes, my postal people love me and how can I not love them back?  Seriously, they take care of my goodies, they call me when I have a package, and they even text me when my Netflix arrive!  Mike and Lisa are THE BEST!

Imagine my delight as I open up the cute little Levenger box and inside are my own personal goodies that I have been dying to play with!  So, I popped open the box, tore off the plastic wrap from around my Tasker Cards and started filling in January and February birthdays.  Did I mention I am going to buy myself a Zune for my birthday?  Since I was afraid I may forget what I was buying myself, I made sure that I filled out my Gift card first!  I am getting old, you know!

Tomorrow I am going to start in on my Circa PDA system and I can't wait!

Hmmm, maybe I should seriously contemplate buying a new pen to go with all of my new goodies!

Beyond Freedom Review

Over the last couple of months I have really been banging the whole "Personal Development" drum on my blogs and podcast.  Mainly because so may of my clients are more concerned with their emotional well-being than their physical annoyances.  Which is so important, especially when it comes to being organized.  There is no way you can organize your "stuff" if your mind is so discombobulated.  Thus, the reason behind all of the warm fuzzy goodness.  Besides, yours truly needed some big time soul searching!

One of the solutions I have been talking about during this time is a program known as Beyond Freedom. It's actually a tool that helps you untangle the blob of mess that was once known as your brain.  Not only does it make you question yourself, but it simplifies the process so that you aren't overwhelmed with the self reflection.  Even the most positive of assistance can overwhelm a completely fried brain, but with Beyond Freedom you do it at your own speed, your own pace, at your own comfortability rate.  Not to say it doesn't totally challenge your psyche.

Essentially, if you connected with The Secret you will feel passionate about Beyond Freedom.  Where The Secret talks to you about how the power of attraction works, Beyond Freedom takes you by the hand, leads you down the path, shows you how to survive, and empowers you to make the necessary changes for you, your life, and your family.

It helps you to acknowledge your strengths, successes, and your individuality.  It has a lot of positive anecdotes and affirmations, but there are also those sections that really make you roll your eyes and think, "Whatever".

I did talk to Marcus about some of my own personal "whatever" moments, just to see if this was just ME or if he ever thought the same thing.  (Sometimes I tend to be a bit of a sceptic so I figured another point of view would be nice!)  Much to my delight, he felt the same things when he went through the workbook the first time, BUT he made a conscious decision to keep an open mind, swallow his pride, eliminate the doubt and move on.  Now when he goes through the exercises he doesn't have a "whatever" moment, he has a "hell ya" moment.

The concept of Beyond Freedom really is no different from all of the other personal development programs out there, BUT what does make it unique is HOW it is laid out.  HOW it syncs to all of the senses.

Obviously there is the workbook, which is great in helping you to open up to yourself.  It asks questions, it helps you acknowledge who you are, what you want, etc.  Of course, the hardest part is the being honest with yourself and not being afraid of YOU!   Let's face it, if it isn't challenging, if it doesn't make you uncomfortable, is it really doing the job?

Accompanying the workbook, are audio CD's WITH the transcripts of what they review. Which is so cool!  Sometimes it takes more than hearing the words to process it through your mind.  The same can be said about HEARING the words versus skimming the pages.  Essentially, they covered both bases!

Not only that, they also put together a DVD for those of you who are more visual.  It's not just a "here you go, do the workbook and you'll be saving the world in no time" program.  They don't just leave you hanging they also do motivational conference, phone calls, workshops and a slew of other events to help with the motivation and positive influence.

I must say that even with some of the "make Suzy roll her eyes" moments, the one thing that stands out above the other programs I have taken a look at over the last several years, this is the only one I have found that doesn't just sell you their shit and wave good bye.  They don't want to NEVER hear from you again, they take pride in themselves for becoming your friend, mentor, and personal cheering squad.  Shoot, I have had friends that I have known for over 20 years who don't do that!

Which is part of the success of getting your brain back to a functioning order.  Positive reinforcement, someone who KNOWS what you are going through and believes in you enough to encourage you through it.

Of course, it is the PERFECT excuse to buy my Mont Blanc Boheme Jewels Amethyst fountain pen!  What can I say?  I'm quite the pen enthusiast and I love a great excuse to buy a new pen and you better believe that I am well worth spending more than my car payment on a pen!

Seriously though, if you are going through a tough time, if you honestly don't have a clue as to where your life is going, what direction you want to take, or if you are completely depressed Beyond Freedom just may be what you need to get your juices flowing again.  Treat yourself to something wonderful, because if you don't who will?

My Little Personal Breakthrough

We all go through those terrible depressing, not really sure what is going on in my life moments.  Me included!  Though 95% of the time I am completely upbeat, positive and have a smile on my face almost 24 hours a day, there comes a time when panic sets in, anxiety takes over, and I feel like I have no control over ANYTHING.  I had several little stalker people, my health was less than par, and I felt like I was wound so tight that if I didn't do "something" I would completely snap.  I was tired of complaining, I was tired of pretending, I was tired of being scared and I was tired of not doing anything about it.

So, I decided to take private kickboxing lessons.  The guy who answered my Craig's List ad was patient, positive and totally different than what I had expected.  My twice a week lesson turned out to be more than just helping me to lose weight, gain confidence and learn how to defend myself.  Marcus turned it into a haven where I could go and not HAVE to smile.  I didn't HAVE to be the local organizational expert.  I could swear, not wear make up, sweat, stink and just be the me that not very many people see...if any.  My insecurities, my fears, everything came right through the door with me and when I left after my hour they didn't come home with me.  When I smiled or laughed in the studio, it was really ME laughing.  It was really ME smiling.  They were genuine signs of happiness.

Kickboxing became a NEED.  Not because I wanted to sweat and work out, hello!  I'm lazier than anything, but because there was something else that was happening during my hour.  Something I had no clue was happening.  Then one day, Marcus talked to me about what he does for a living.  Hmm, you mean my piddly pittance of twice week private lessons wasn't paying all of the bills?  ;o)  Nothing too terribly in-depth, just a here is what I do and why don't I bring a CD in and that way you have a better understanding.

Never fails, the day he brought in the CD's was a day that was totally "OFF" for me.  Self doubt about myself, my decisions, my life, EVERYTHING dumped down on me in one little day.  In between trying to remember to breathe and count at the same time (which I still haven't mastered), I totally dumped everything out.  One thing after another, things I never knew bothered me suddenly "bothered" me.  My self confidence was shot.  (Ya, Miss Ego lost her ego!)  All he did was hand me the CD's and made me promise to listen to them.

Begrudgingly, I listened to him and I put in the CD's that weekend.  Have you ever had one of those light bulb moments when everything feels so much clearer?  While I was listening to the CD's they didn't say anything that I didn't already KNOW, but it was amazing the feelings of confidence, optimism, and empowerment that washed over me when I heard them being said aloud.  I felt like my old self again.  Like I could go out and conquer the world.  I was smiling a real live smile and I wasn't in the studio.  That's when it hit me.  Ya, I was losing weight and getting into shape, but what was really happening was Marcus hit a connection.  He pushed a button and I was feeling better.  He took the same applications he was using in his own Beyond Freedom program and was passing it along to me.

Making me be honest with myself, honest with what I wanted, honest with who I really was.  He made me question myself, made me do things that I never would have thought I could do.  (I even touched my frikken toes!)

For the first time in a very long time, I know who I am, what I want, where I want to go.  I feel like a reinvention of my old self.  Only this time, I chose what I wanted to include and what I wanted to exclude.  My confidence is back and if it's even possible, I feel more sure of myself than I ever have.  I feel like I have this wonderful little team in Marcus, Beyond Freedom and myself, although the clapping can stop anytime now, Marcus!

Not only is my mental state a hell of a lot better, did I mention that I can wear my purple dress now and I look frikken hot?!  ;o)  Some things never change they just get better!

Tasker Cards

One of the things I really need to start getting better at is sending thank you's, birthday cards, remembering my nephews birthdays, all that fun stuff. I used to be absolutely INCREDIBLE at it, but I have fallen into major neglect! So, it's time for me to get my butt in gear and put together a little reminder system so I don't win the "Worst Auntie of the Year" award...AGAIN!

First things first, I went out to Levenger to do some post holiday shopping and look what I found! Not only does the Holiday Tasker use my favorite 3x5 Cards, they come in a wonderful card holder, dividers that represent Gifts, Wishes, Cards, and Thanks, plus each of the 3x5 cards are labeled the same way. That's not the BEST part, though. Because it is after the holiday these little babies dropped from $18 to $4.95. No brainer here, they went into my shopping cart and will be here next week.

Once they arrive in my hot little hands, I am going to go ahead and pull out my calendar for January and check out who has a birthday or anniversary coming up.

  1. Anyone having a birthday that will just be getting a card I will put their name on the CARDS tasker as well as their birthday.
  2. Anyone needing a gift (not that my brother deserves one!) will be put on the GIFT card with a couple of ideas on what to get the ungrateful urchin. (Kidding, love ya, brother!)
  3. Once that is done I am NOT going to put them back into the box, instead I am going to put them in my Agenda so I don't forget about them! Writing them down is great, but remembering them is the important part! When I am out at the store I can flip open the agenda, see which cards I need to get, what presents and I'll be golden!

How do you set reminders for yourself on sending out cards to friends and loved ones?

Technology Bitch List

I love technology AND I hate it! There is nothing more wonderful then when it works and nothing more irritating then when it doesn't. For example; my stupid website wasn't popping up this morning and I couldn't get my emails and it was TERRIBLE! I had no clue what to do or how to fix it and it pissed me off to no end.

Apparently, something to do with my DNS server and I needed to "reboot". I HATE that. Something so simple as turning things off and unplugging cords. Sheeesh.

Then Marcia commented how she can only open some pages in IE and not Firefox. I have have had the same issues only in reverse. I couldn't open pdf files in IE, but I could in Firefox. The great mysteries of the universe.

Well, I figured since I have at my disposal the Great Oz of Technology, I would take the key and open up the box to the Mysteries of the Technology Universe. I am sacrificing him for the good of the technology challenged. That's right the Westside Gadget Guy, unbeknownst to him, is going to answer all of your most frustrating and annoying technology questions. (He's actually pretty darn good, too!)

Even if it's something as simple as not knowing which headset to buy to record podcasts, Karl Susman is your guy. Ask that man some questions! He is a fountain of information and needs to be tapped into.

Can't remember what you named a file and you can't for the life of you find it? Ask Karl. He can tell you how to find it.

Starting up a podcast of your own, but don't know where to start, how to do it, what you need? Ask Karl. He tells me all the time what I'm doing wrong! :)

Leave your questions in the comments and I'll have Karl do a blog post, record a podcast, or send you the answers telepathically. :) Well, it's worth a shot!

Brother P-Touch QL-500 Label Maker

It didn't matter how many times I changed departments or went to a new company I always had my office supplies I couldn't live without. It got to be so bad that I would actually ask what my office supply budget was during my interview. Dead Serious! I really have issues.

So I figured if I was that emotionally attached to my favorite supplies you probably have yours.

Each week I am going to pick one of my favs and tell you why I love it, what I do with it, and where you can get it. If it just so happens that it is one of your top favorites, let us know and tell us how you put it to work!

The first purchase I ever make is a label maker! Not one of the wimpy hand held ones, but a big monster, hook it up your computer, label maker. The one I currently have sitting on my desk is the Brother P-Touch QL-500 and I LOVE IT! I can make file folder labels or mailing labels and I can do it all at my computer. I can do 1 or I can do 100, I don't have to worry about finding my old label sheet to put into the printer and then try to remember where I last left off so I print on the next available label.

No one really likes to file or create file folders, but when it's as easy as a simple click of a button you don't mind it so much! You can add little icons, change the font, add borders, whatever makes you happy! It is also a great way for Visual Organizers to help organize types of files. You could color code your file folders, but if you don't have the approval to buy 5 different colors of file folders try using a different font, icon or border on the labels instead.

Use a money icon for your Financial Files.
Use a pen icon for all Meeting Minutes.
Use a plane for all Travel Files.

They are your files so have fun with them!

Organizing Your Accounts

Laurie is an account manager for a publishing company in Colorado and she has a heck of time trying to keep pricing, projects, and marketing pieces together for each of her accounts. She tried binders, but then she was dragging around 6 binders with her every time she left the office, which was often. She even grabbed a file box to put in the trunk of her car to organize all of the documents, but it was too bulky and she had to constantly pull it out every time she went grocery shopping. Needless to say it was a pain the old butt!

I just finished playing with the Simply Chic Organizational Folder from uCreate and we decided that this may just be PERFECT for what Laurie needed.

The folder has 8 full-size pockets that are all Poly, which means we were able to put labels onto the pockets and if an account changed, we could just tear off the label and put another one without ripping the folder.

Each pocket was labeled with an account and then she had two left over for Misc. Projects and Office. If she had pricing to work on or give to a client, she would simply put the information into the appropriate folder and when she went to the clients office she had it all there in one simple, little, pretty folder.

We did the same thing for the Office pocket. If she needed to drop off her expense report or any other documents to the office, she placed into the pocket and she was all set.

Not only did the Organizational Folder help her condense all of the crap she carries around in her car, she also eliminated a very large and messy computer case, no more boxes to take out of the trunk, no more binders, and no more crinkled brochures because they were shoved her computer bag!

The key to any type of organization is to keep it simple, keep it fun, and don't OVER ORGANIZE!

Happy Organizing!
